Now for Tool Time (OK – my husband’s favorite show!!) The following are my favorite tools, which I happen to use every day – you’ve heard of them, I am sure, but here’s my spin on them:
I can’t say enough about these needles! Because I like to create with Bosal Foam and Fiber’s fun materials, I have switched to using Microtex Sharps most of the time! Here’s what Schmetz says – the needle has a very slim, acute point, which is great for polyester, micro fibers, silk, foils, artificial leather and coated materials. It creates beautiful topstitching and straight stitches for quilting as well. So, if you are making a bag with foam or other stiff stabilizers inside, give these a try! 2. Creative Grids Quick Trim and Circle Ruler
What can I say? Just a WORKHORSE of a ruler! It’s just 3-1/2″ x 12-1/2″ – and it sits beside me while cutting and sewing – such a convenient size.
This ruler features the markings of a traditional Creative Grids ruler. White 45 degree angle lines cross at the 1/4 inch line, are printed on both sides of the ruler. Use these lines to cut binding and border strips perfectly as well as cut and trim flying geese units.
Use the holes drilled in the center to draw circles up to 22 inches. You can check out the video explaining this awesome ruler here:
3. Karen Kay Buckley Perfect Scissors
I just love these scissors! They are a dream when you are cutting slippery stiffeners and foams! The serrated blades actually pull the material in instead of it sliding away. This is especially important when cutting Bosal’s Heat Moldable stiffener – so slippery, but these scissors do the job with ease. They have a cushiony grip which is comfortable when doing a lot of cutting. I love the large, but have all sizes here in the cutting area to help me get my job done!
4. Wonder Clips
So Wonderful! When you need to hold 2 pieces of foam together, and you know that a pin just won’t do – Wonder Clips to the rescue! I have them in all sizes including the mini and the jumbo and just love them! Hint hint scroll down – you may want to enter for a new package of Wonder Clips!!
