We are kicking off the Notion Commotion Blog Hop today! Ten designers (click here to find out who) will show you the latest notions from Spring Quilt Market 2014! Are you ready to hop and possibly win?
Let’s start off with the humble pair of tweezers! Yes, this unassuming little tool is a must have at your sewing machine and in your hand-sewing box! It’s your extra set of hands! Dritz has a new pair out just for you called Soft Grip Tweezers, which feature a soft grip cushion and sharp, angled tips. The sharp points on the tips grasp objects tightly and securely. You’ll use these for threading hard-to-reach areas on sergers and sewing machines.
Why did this little notion catch my eye? We have just released a new pattern called Fold’n Stitch Holiday Ornaments (see below). These beauties are embellished with 6/0 glass seed beads. I needed a pair of tweezers to grab the beads to thread onto my needle – the Soft Grips are just perfect for this purpose! Most tweezers send the beads off into outer space (or onto the living room floor) – not the Soft Grips. No more flying beads! Tip: Turn the tweezers to the flat side to get a grip on tiny items.
There are also plenty of other uses for tweezers in quilting and sewing:
- Threading machine needles;
- Removing unwanted threadlets when “un-sewing”;
- Use the points as a stiletto;
- Guide couching threads (Hold the couching threads behind the presser foot to start the process; guide the couching threads from the front after the the threads are secure);
- Pull the bobbin thread to the top when free motion quilting;
- And sew on!
