Today is my day on the Batiks Go Retro Blog Hop! Batiks Go Retro is a fabric line by Tammy Silvers for Island Batiks. (Tammy Silvers is the creative mind behind Tamarinis – just in case you haven’t visited her website, now’s a great time to show her some love!!)
When Tammy asked me to take part in this hop, I jumped at the chance! I love the colors that she chose in this line, like these periwinkle atomic tvs:
Or this green and turquoise atomic line:
And this tangerine atomic wedge:
It was just too hard to choose just one color, so…. I made my honeycomb tote using all of the colors!! I just love how it came out, and the scale is just right to showcase the fabric!
I used Aurifil thread to cover and join my pre-cut hexie foundations.
I must confess, I used Aurifil’s Monofilament Invisible thread in clear for the quilting. I just loved it. There were too many colors involved to choose one thread color and the dark “bindings” on the hexies made the decision for me!
Important – I used a Schmetz Chrome Topstitch 90/14 – which is my new GO TO needle!! Why?
- The Hexie foundations are made from Bosal’s Craftex – a medium weight stabilizer (similar to Peltex). The Topstitch needle allows the needle to pierce this material without issue.
- Chrome is COOL! Chrome resists heat and wear.
- Chrome will stay cool longer with less stitch distortion.
- Chrome aids the thread to pass through the needle eye with less friction and less heat build-up.
- Chrome also allows the needle to pass through the fabric with less resistance.
Chrome is COOL!
Now for the best part! A giveaway! Just comment below on our honeycomb tote, and you will get a chance to win a Honeycomb Handbag Tote pattern, Bosal Precut Hexies and enough Batiks go Retro to make clutch! Contest ends 9/17 at midnight!
